The other day, a new client walked into my coaching office.

“What do you want to see happen in the next 6 months?” I asked.

“I want to be an actress like Angelina Jolie.” She said. “But I’m stuck in a rut. I don’t have energy for anything.”

This is frustrating. She can visualize herself playing on the stage, but she feels so “stuck” that she couldn’t even pick up the bag to go to the gym.

“What do you think you have to do to become an actress like Angelina Jolie?”

“Well, I have to lose weight, stop working overtime, enroll in an acting class, finish my relationship with the wrong guy, and let go of the shadow of my mother’s death.”

She’s doomed to feel stuck with so much on her to-do list. No matter how exciting the dream seems, she was so overwhelmed that she actually felt stuck.

I am sure you have been in a similar situation. There’s something you really really want but at the same time, the way to get there seems so daunting.

Often people who feel overwhelmed give up too soon.

Imagine this: you are at point A, looking at your destination (point Z). You might think there’s no way you can do it.  But if you look at point B instead, it suddenly feels easy, “I can do it”. Then from point B to point C, D, etc.

Before you realize it, point A is already miles behind you. It will still take some effort and a good map for you to get to the final destination (point Z), but you are no longer stuck, and you are enjoying the scenery along the way!

Your action of the week: Pick ONE exciting thing that you want to see happen in your life in the next 6 months, and write down one action you can take NOW to help you get closer to it.  After you’ve completed this week’s action, share your success with a supportive friend!

I registered in a drawing class because I always wanted to be able to draw.  As for my client – she picked one key thing immediately – she stopped working weekends.

Here’s to your getting ‘unstuck’!
