Maybe you’ve done your share of personal work. Maybe friends have already come to you for advice. Maybe you feel called to help people, but also to discover something deeper in yourself.
That’s what happened to me. And what I found is this:
Becoming a life coach didn’t just give me a way to help others.
It gave me a way to come home to myself.
Coaching calls you to grow.
Not just once, but again and again.
It sharpens your awareness.
It opens your heart.
It changes how you listen, speak, think, act, and relate.
It’s not just a career. It’s a path of becoming.
Coaching changes you, too.
Most people consider becoming a life coach because they want to help others. They feel a pull to do meaningful work, to make a difference, or to share what they’ve learned from their own growth.
But there’s a beautiful secret about this profession that doesn’t get talked about enough.
It’s not just a job or a skill set. Coaching is a practice that calls you to grow as a human being. It invites you to develop presence, compassion, clarity, and integrity. It challenges you to walk your talk. And in the process of supporting someone else’s transformation, you begin to transform too.
The Surprising Gift of Coaching: You Heal Along the Way
It happens so often I’ve stopped being surprised by it.
A client comes in struggling with something incredibly familiar. They’re stuck in indecision. Or questioning their path. Or dealing with anxiety, burnout, self-doubt, or heartbreak. And without even realizing it, they’re bringing the very lesson I’ve been needing in my own life.
Sometimes, I don’t even have words for what I’m going through. But when that client sits across from me (virtually or in person) and starts sharing, it’s like life is saying, “Listen up. This one’s for you, too.”
And here’s the wild part: in coaching them through their challenge, I find clarity on my own. Something bigger than me steps in. New insights flow. Words come through that I didn’t plan. The client has an “aha moment”, and so do I.
That’s the power of presence. That’s the magic of coaching. It’s not just helping someone else move forward. It’s tapping into something wise and true that helps both of us grow.
The BETAS Framework: Coaching the Whole Human (Including You)
The main framework we teach in our coach training is called BETAS. It stands for:
Body, Emotions, Thoughts, Action, and Spirit.
It’s a way of understanding the full human experience. As a coach, you learn to help your clients explore all five levels. And as you do, you start noticing your own patterns and blind spots too.
Let’s break it down.
- Body
Your body holds so much information. As a coach, you learn to become aware of body language, nervous system regulation, breathing, and physical sensations, not just in your client but in yourself.
Before a session, you may notice tension or restlessness. So you ground. You breathe. You get centered.
Over time, you develop a deeper awareness of how your body responds to stress, emotion, truth, and connection. You learn to listen to it, and that changes how you move through life.
- Emotions
Helping a client process their emotions requires that you be comfortable with feelings, too.
That doesn’t mean you have to be a master at it. But it does mean you start becoming more honest and open with your own emotions.
You learn to stay present with discomfort. To recognize fear, sadness, anger, and joy. To name what you feel and not get swept away by it.
You also start to see that emotions are not good or bad. They are energy. They are information. And when you allow them, they move.
- Thoughts
Coaching is powerful because it helps people see their beliefs and stories.
As you coach clients to notice their thoughts and examine their mindset, you start doing the same with your own.
You begin catching the voice of your inner critic. You challenge limiting beliefs. You notice assumptions. And you open up to new ways of thinking that weren’t possible before.
This level of work brings incredible clarity, not just for your clients, but for you.
- Action
Coaching is not just about reflection. It’s about movement.
You support your clients in taking aligned action based on what they value, not what they’ve been told they should do.
And the process makes you more intentional, too.
You start asking yourself:
What choices actually reflect who I am?
What steps am I avoiding?
Am I following through on the things that matter most to me?
The more you help others get into action, the more you become someone who lives from alignment.
- Spirit
This is where it all connects.
Spirit is the level that speaks to something beyond words.
It’s your connection to the Universe. To presence. To the vast potential within you, and within every human being.
You might experience it as intuition, insight, or flow. You might call it God, Source, energy, or simply “something bigger.”
Whatever name you use, you’ll know when it’s there.
As a coach, you learn to hold space in a way that invites this level forward. You learn to trust the moments of silence. You feel when a question arises from somewhere deeper. You witness your client remembering who they really are, and you remember, too.
Spirit is not just about religion.
It’s about aliveness.
And it’s often the piece that brings real change.
Coaching from this level helps people find their truth, their courage, and their next step, whether they’re facing a decision, a crisis, or a breakthrough.
And it changes you just as much as it changes them.

Coaching Makes You a Better Partner, Parent, Friend, and Leader
What you practice in sessions starts to ripple out into the rest of your life.
You become a better listener.
You learn how to stay grounded during hard conversations.
You get better at asking curious questions instead of jumping to conclusions.
You become more emotionally aware and less reactive.
You start to see people through the lens of compassion, not judgment.
And most importantly, you start doing that with yourself, too.
We Fall in Love With How We Show Up
You may have heard the phrase: “We don’t fall in love with another person. We fall in love with who we are when we’re with them.”
That’s how I feel about coaching.
When I’m in a session and fully present, I like who I am. I feel calm, generous, wise. I feel connected. I feel alive. I feel like I’m showing up as the person I’m meant to be.
And I want more of that version of me in all areas of my life.
Coaching invites that version forward.
You Don’t Have to Be Perfect—Just Willing
A lot of people hesitate to become coaches because they think they need to have it all figured out.
Here’s the truth: you don’t.
You don’t have to be perfectly healed.
You don’t have to have the perfect words.
You don’t have to be above the work.
You just have to care.
You have to be present.
And you have to be willing to keep growing.
Coaching is not about being the expert. It’s about being in partnership. It’s about holding space, asking better questions, and trusting that the wisdom will arise for both of you.
So, Should You Become a Life Coach?
If you’ve been thinking about it, here’s what I’ll say:
Becoming a coach isn’t just about building a career.
It’s about building yourself.
It’s about saying yes to being someone who helps others, while continuing to evolve and expand in your own life.
It’s one of the rare professions where your inner growth is part of your job.
And if you’re called to it, there’s a reason.
